The Seven “I AM" declarations of Jesus

In the Gospel of John, Jesus declared seven times, saying “I am."  Each of these declarations reveals significant aspects of His Identity, Mission and Authority.

 John 6:35

1.  Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me will not hunger, and he who believes in me will never thirst”.

He was saying that just as bread sustains physical life, that He provides spiritual nourishment.

 John 8:12

2.  Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life”.

He was saying that He is the light of the world and by following Him you won't walk in darkness. In Heaven there is no darkness, God’s presence alone provides illumination.

  John 10:9

3.  Jesus declared, “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved”.

He was saying that He is the only way to enter into a personal relationship with God and find salvation.

  John 10:11

4.  Jesus declared, “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep”.

He was saying that laying down His life for us was beneficial to achieve salvation through Him, and only Him.

  John 11:25

5. Jesus declared, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies”.

He was saying that His power over death through His resurrection enables us all to have eternal life by believing in Him.

"If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord", and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved".    Romans 10:9

John 14:6

6.  Jesus declared, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me”.

He was saying that He is the only way to God, that He is truth and that He is the door to everlasting life.

John 15:5

7.  Jesus declared, “I am the vine; you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing”.

He was saying our dependence in Him is the only way for spiritual vitality. Apart from a personal relationship with Him, we're like a tumble weed being tossed in every direction. We have to be spiritually grounded in Him, enabling us all to grow strong so we glorify Him in everything we say and do.

Each declaration not only reflects on His holy nature but addresses the spiritual reliance needed in Him for all humanity.

Onward and upward, in Christ Jesus

Jesus loves Us

Titus 3:4-6

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior"
