Our Advocate and Mediator

Understanding our personal relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is foundational in Christian beliefs. Your personal relationship with God emphasizes direct communication through prayer, confession, and spiritual growth, rather than rituals or attending institutional religion that might teach outside of the Gospel.

Use scripture to determine if your being deceived.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work,"

Hebrews 11:6

“A man cannot please God unless he has faith. Anyone who comes to God must believe that He is. That one must also know that God gives what He promised to the one who keeps on looking for Him.”

Romans 8:26-27

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”

Approachability in Jesus as Advocate and Mediator

Here’s a detailed exploration of how this relationship manifests in various aspects of faith.

Jesus and the Holy Spirit are approachable personally through prayer, "talking with God".

In Christian theology, prayer is viewed as a means of communication with God. Prayer by believers can be expressed through their thoughts, feelings, and needs. The New Testament emphasizes that Jesus serves as a Mediator (intercessor) between you and God.

Scriptures states that the Holy Spirit helps us as believers, in our weakness by interceding for us when we do not know what to pray for. This suggests that even in moments of uncertainty or confusion, we can rely on the Holy Spirit to present our prayers to God.

Confession and Forgiveness

Christians believe that Jesus offers forgiveness for sins through His sacrifice on the Cross.

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

The act of confession is not a form of ritualistic confession, it's entering into a sincere dialogue with God where we acknowledge our sins, failures, and shortcomings, and seek restoration. God delights in our desire to talk to Him through prayer.

Help in Growth

The relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit also plays a crucial role in personal growth. Believers often seek guidance from the Holy Spirit to help them grow spiritually.

Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

The qualities of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are indicators of spiritual growth and maturity.

Engaging in a personal relationship with Jesus, allows us to cultivate these attributes in our lives.

Salvation

Salvation is an important aspect of a personal relationship. According to Christian doctrine, eternal life begins with the acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Believing in Jesus initiates a transformative journey where believers experience spiritual rebirth.

John 3:3

“Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”"

Living out our faith actively on earth while we look forward to eternal life in heaven.

Glorifying God and Edifying others

The ultimate goal of a personal relationship is to glorify God and edify others. As Christians, we’re called to reflect God's love through our actions, and support others in faith.

Matthew 5:16

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Hebrews 10:24-25

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

This relational act gives us a desire to fellowship, while encouraging each other in our spiritual journeys.

This Glorifies God and edifies us as believers.
